
Westlee Brent Latta was born and raised in the quiet town of Joseph, Oregon. In the silence and solitude of the mountains, he has sought to fill his world with strange noises for over 30 years. In the realms of music and sound design, West’s artistic and technical skills have been used to fulfill a wide variety of roles. He has composed numerous soundtracks for games, theater and dance, as well as several short films and animated featurettes. In addition to soundtrack composition, he has been a composer and performer of electronic and pop music for many years, both as a solo artist and part of several bands in the Seattle area. As a member of the electronic duo Zero Crossing, he gained recognition in the underground EBM/Synthpop scene with remix credits for such artists as Glis and Assemblage 23. As an interactive sound designer, West enjoys the challenge of creating a cohesive and consistent palette to convey both fantastic and realistic sonic elements. He thrives on his ability to collaborate with team members to address complex issues and create elegant solutions while working within the technical constraints of the medium.
As a composer, West draws inspiration from numerous game and film composers and musical artists, yet strives to express a unique voice and character in his music. He has a deep appreciation for the challenges of creating dynamic and adaptive soundtracks, while still focusing on the importance of creating an accessible and appropriate score for each given project. West is an experienced performer, with brass, voice and percussion training in addition to his familiarity with a variety of other acoustic instruments.
Currently residing in Dublin, Ireland, West is a Localization Audio Producer for Microsoft. Formerly he acted as Sound Supervisor for Microsoft Game Studios, and Audio Manager and Sound Designer for Amaze Entertainment/Griptonite Games. He also is a freelance writer for AudioTuts.com.
